And the Darwin Award Goes To.... Detroit Rapper Young Calicoe posts video boasting of animal fighting, gets raided by police

Young and Not-so-Bright Calicoe

July 12, 2012- Meet Detroit rapper and wanna-be tough guy "Young Calicoe". In a desperate bid for attention, this little known hack posted a "boast video" online showing off his collection of fighting animals. "Anybody wanna fight some dogs?" he asks as he gives a tour of his Pit Bulls and roosters, who he describes as "fighters" and "upcoming champions".

Fortunately, Young Calicoe's plan worked and his video went viral. Luckily for his animals, some of those video's viewers turned out to be members of Law Enforcement. Young Calicoe's property was raided on July 11 2012 by Detroit Police and cruelty investigators from Michigan Humane Society. A number of animals were removed and are currently being held at the MHS shelter while prosecutors decide how to proceed against Young Calicoe.

Two horses were found tied to a fence and abandoned on Wednesday (June 13 2012) morning at 7 and Diamond Streets in North Philadelphia. Obviously malnourished with their ribs showing, no horse-shoes and sores about them, it’s another clear case of animal cruelty in the city. (Continue Reading at PHILADELPHIA ANIMAL RESCUE EXAMINER)

$1000 Reward: Senior Black Lab from North Philly

Imagine losing your beloved dog in an area known for its dog fighting epidemic, an area plagued by regular discoveries of dead animals dumped on the train tracks. That should give you some sense of the fear that has been resonating with Earnheart's owner after his 12 year old Lab/Pit mix went missing from his yard in broad daylight.

Earnheart was last seen on May 19, 2012. While outside on a potty break, he either escaped or was stolen from his yard at F & Tioga Streets in Philadelphia.

Earnheart was rescued years ago from an abusive situation in North Carolina. Since then, he has traveled across the U.S. with his owner, who eventually settled down in a rough section of Philadelphia bordering the Juniata and Kensington neighborhoods. This neighborhood has been in the news frequently for animal-related crimes. First, there was the home just blocks away that was raided by Humane Law Enforcement, where officers found 12 scarred and wounded Pit Bulls who had obviously been used for animal fighting. Next, there was the string of cockfighting related arrests just a few blocks west of where Earnheart called home.  Later, it was discovered that the train tracks around the corner were being used as a dumping ground for dogs and roosters presumably killed in animal fights.

While searching for Earnheart, his owner has made several gruesome discoveries, from dead dogs in trash bags to mutilated roosters strewn across the ground. However, he has yet to find Earnheart. Earnheart's owner has pledged a $1000 reward for the return of his pup, which is to be paid out in addition to the money that is currently being raised through Earnheart's online "Fundrazr". Despite this large reward, there have been no leads.

While  investigating the dead animals on the train tracks in the same area where Earnheart went missing from, Whispering Woods Animal Rescue founder Tammy Woods had the opportunity to speak with Earnheart's owner. She immediately offered her assistance, and W.W.A.R. has since been working on spreading the word about this missing pup. Due to the large amount of reward money being offered, another local group by the name of Justice Rescue has set up a trust where the growing reward can remain safe and untouched.  Justice Rescue has designed missing posters which were distributed last week in the area where Earnheart went missing from. Justice Rescue is also taking phone tips and will personally disperse the $1000+ reward for Earnheart and/or information leading to the safe return of Earnheart- NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Anyone with information is asked to call Justice Rescue at 215-942-6363. You may also reach them via e-mail at info@justice-rescue.com.
